Nightshift diaries

Day I: Manic Monday

I left home at 7:00, reached the bus stand at 7:10 only to realize that the last bus to Gairidhara has already left. Crestfallen, i walked to Jamal. Already full micro buses going to all the other places than i had to go, came, picked more passengers and bolted ahead.  My patience was running out and i was cursing my luck. Just then i felt like i heard the conductor shout “..Naxal..Gairidhara..Bhatbhateni…”  The micro was already packed with people. Having left with no alternatives i jumped in, only to find myself standing in an oblique position. It was obvious that i could not accomodate my 6ft height in the 5ft clearing of the chasis. But then this was outrageous. I was resting my upper body sideways to the person sitting next to me, who feet was trapped amidst other people standing. I was feeling for the old man standing behind me for i was owing my balance to his arms which was overstretched, grasping the cushion of the seat infront of me. A lady, maybe a few years elder than me was infront of me desperately trying to get hold of the balance as the micro zoomed off. There wasn’t much space between her back and my chest. The scenario seemed perverse and the thought was more sickening than that. I was trying my level best to maintain the gap between us. After 10 mins, i dropped infront of ‘Mike’s Breakfast’. Hah! was that nice. I walked to the the office from there, enjoying the evening zephyr.

I’m on my desk now, writing this. I gotta head to work now.
