If you’ve gone through the hassles of license renewal, you must be feeling all the words that shall follow, else if, dont get frustrated for this is the reality. I shall try to simplify the process so that you wont have to face the problems that i faced.
In case of license expiry (applies for most of others as well):
- Gather few of your best friends who would come with you. About 3 others would be really really helpful.
- Photocopy your Citizenship card and your current license.
- 3 Auto size photos. (If not, have atleast 1 autosize photograph with you to paste in your new license card)
- Now get to Ekantakuna at the office. Reach there by 10:15. If you reach earlier than that, the counter where the forms are available wont be open.
- Ask two of your friends to sit in the line. That’s in the back-side of the main building. (I think its room number 3). Those are the lines where you pay the fees. The first line is for new license, the second line’s for license renewal and the third one’s for license application. (i dont know bout the remaining three queues). So if you’re renewing the license, ask two of your friends to get in the second queue.
- Exit the main compound and get into the (older) compound to your right, coming out of the gate. Collect a renewal form there, which costs Rs 2.
- The form consists of two pages. One about your older license details and other your state of health.
- Fill out those forms there.
- Now get outside and buy a Rs. 5 Postal Stamp (which costs you Rs. 6)
- Paste the stamp, and 2 photos in the form.
- At the gate, submit the form and get a medical checkup receipt. That costs you Rs.10.
- Get to the backside of the building. (Say Hi to your friends in the queue just to boost their morale
- There’s a small room for medical checkup, get in there. Since you’ve already filled out the form, the examiner will probably conduct a color blind test and then sign on the form.
- From there, get into rear window of to your left. Thats where you submit the form for verification.
- The verification takes about 15 mins. You get the forms back from the other window.
- Now take the form and hand it to your friend(s) sitting in the queue.
- Pay the money at the counter when your turn (finally) arrives. The staff there will return you with the form and a new blank license card.
- Now get outside of the building (AGAIN!), Pay Rs.50 and type your credentials on the card.
- Get back to the compound. In the second window at the front, submit the form, the new ID and the old ID (as well).
- The staff recieving the form will give you a receipt and a date.
Get to the office on the prescribed date and get your new license. Sounds hectic isn’t it? Well this is the simplest version!
