A song..

I’ve been mentally harasses by the preparation for my qualifiers lately and to top the agony there’s a survey paper i need to write. The pressure’s building up and so are the distractions. Well anyway, I was listening to this song, “December Love Song” by Gackt and found it nice so i decided to search for the english translation of the Japanese song. The artist has sung an english song of the same name but its not the translation of the original and hence sounds awful – syntatically and semantically. Regarding the song, here’s the lyrics:

Translator’s notes: This song revolves around the words, taisetsuna hito and daisukina hito, which mean most precious person, and most loved person. These are fairly common words in Japanese, and they are taken quite seriously– they do not carry the over-the-top, kittens and roses feel of their English equivalents. However, it seems like the only way to translate them is to use drekky, horrible Hallmark words like my love, my darling, my precious one or beloved. Yuck. Apologies.

Further notes: There is something wonderfully sad about this song. The fragile, sad feeling has something to do with the warmth of love in lonely winter. I love it. (I hated it the first time I heard it, I thought it was synthy, overproduced, and terrible. Then somewhere along the line, I fell in love).

If you’re unfamiliar with JPop, then you might find this video kinda annoying. The artist (Gackt) flying the in air almost through out the song makes the concert theatrical and lot more distracting. The music is nice if you listen to it, like for example playing it in another window and working in the other. Also, if you’re a fan of the western rock or even pop, you may find the JPop artists ‘weird’ since men and women look alike – with somewhat similar makeups. In west, even Simon Webbe has built a six-packed abs!

My girlfriend was seriously annoyed when i made her watch this video. She could tolerate the music though.
Okay then, i shall get back to work.
